Saprahan is a tradition from Sambas, West Kalimantan that held to give another thanks. The term "Saprahan" descent from "sap" or sit in a row, because of that the guests in the event sit on the timber floor which is called "tarop". They stay in a big tent and covered with rumbia.
The purpose of saprahan is to grow a good relationship, to improve the sense of togetherness, and to build justice among the people. Tjis has a big part in people of sambas for harmonious life in their society. Saprahan usually held to celebrating the wedding party in Sambas.
The clothes in saprahan have decided, for men must wear the special clothes from Sambas Malay such as "Telok Belanga" clothes. Usually the clothes is gold and there is wraper on their waist. For women wear "Baju Kurung" however for people who has made pilgrimage to mekah usually wear the "pakaian haji" like they wear in mekah.
People is seated in a circle facing their meal. There will be six plates fro six of them. The meal always served by hots's servants. They only wait in their group patiently for their turn of having a polite service from the servants of party. They usually have a nice conversation with their meal. Usually the menu is a special food from Sambas Malay, like dish of meat, shrimp chili paper, slada or "opor ayam".
Saprahan is guided by saprah head, such as the people that knoe about problem of religious. The Head of saprah sits in the end of tent saprah among the guests, face the food and the audience. Native in sambas knows the head of saprah as "kepala parit". saprahan is really press about the importancy of custom when they are gathering
